1 Describe the key features of plastic surgery
One key feature of Plastic Surgery is that surgeons were able to experiment with newer and safer techniques as in WW1 as 11,000 plastic surgeries were carried out. For example a new technique known as ‘Skin Grafts’ became a popular as well as safe surgery for soldiers who suffered from facial disfiguration.
Another key feature of plastic surgery is that it decreased in rate of infection because hospitals became more sanitary as more information about bacteria was learned by doctors and surgeons. For example, Florence Nightingale was an individual who encouraged taking sanitary precautions before surgeries and in hospitals in general.
